I just noticed the new feature of being able to vote, negatively or positively, for a post. So I decided to test it out. I saw a post that I agreed with and wanted to give it a positive vote. I clicked the + but got the following error, "Action failed: You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day". WTF? I had never even used the feature before. So how could I have reached my quota for the day? What's up with that?

That is well and truly weird. It may be because of your Esteemed status. I might have set it up wrong. Let me look at it later this evening.

Jeff

Try it now.
Yeah, I came first in jiggery pokery, what about you?

Do we have a daily quota for voting negatively? I voted once and it was good but the second time I got an error msg that I reached my daily quota.

Not being racist is not some default starting position. You don’t simply get to say you’re not a racist; not being racist — or a sexist or a homophobe — is a constant, arduous process of unlearning, of being uncomfortable, of eating crow and being humbled and re-evaluating. - G.D. at postbourgie

Yes, there are daily quotas. You can vote more positives than negatives because that's the kind of board this is. B)

I don't like rating posts, it's sort of a popularity contest thing.

I seemed to recall a lot of people expressing interest in this over the months, so I thought we'd give it a try.

What are the daily quotas? I

I like voting on posts and I'm glad you decided to give it a try. Sometimes there just isn't a better way of saying something and voting positively is a way for me to validate and advance that argument.

Also, when I vote negatively it is almost always for tone and not content. I won't vote negatively simply because I disagree with the argument but more so the way the argument is presented, or if there is no argument and the post is flaming or trolling or whatnot.

I think it depends on your member group (e.g., members, esteemed, distinguished, etc.), but if memory serves, most people get 3-5 positive votes a day and 1 negative.
